What to Expect as a New Patient at RES Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation

In Pain and Distress? Call RES.

If you were hurt in a car accident, you probably have questions about where to go for care and how your treatment will be paid for. At RES Physical Medicine & Rehab, we evaluate and treat auto accident injuries, and we bill your no-fault insurance carrier directly.

Below is what your first visit looks like and what happens next.

Before Your Visit

Schedule Your Appointment

You don’t need a referral. Call or text our office at 716-681-4088, and we can often see you the next day. If you need a ride, we’ll send a free Uber to bring you to your first appointment.

When you call, please have:

  • Your driver’s license or other photo ID
  • Your no-fault claim number, if you have one
  • The date and location of the accident
  • The insurance company for the vehicle you were in

If you don’t have a claim number yet, you can still book your appointment.

Paperwork

Your first appointment takes about 90 minutes. During your visit, a medical assistant will walk you through your intake paperwork. If you fill out your forms before you arrive, your visit will be shorter.

During Your Visit

Your Evaluation

Expect a longer, more detailed visit than you would get at urgent care. You’ll spend time with one of our providers, who will:

  • Go over how the accident happened
  • Ask about your symptoms
  • Do a full physical exam
  • Look at how your injuries affect your daily activities

Accident injuries don’t always hurt right away, so your provider will also check for problems that may not be causing symptoms yet.

X-rays

Our providers will take X-rays in our office. Along with standard views, we take images that help us evaluate mobility. These show how your spine moves and whether any ligaments were damaged, which will help our team establish your treatment plan.

Your Treatment Plan

Before you leave, an RES provider will go over what they found and what comes next. Depending on your injuries, your plan may include:

  • Non-surgical pain treatment, such as trigger point injections, prolotherapy or platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections
  • Physical therapy or chiropractic care
  • A referral to an orthopedic specialist or neurologist
  • A referral to counseling or another specialist

After Your Visit

Most patients return every two to four weeks for follow-up visits that last 20 to 30 minutes. Our providers will assess your progress and adjust your treatment as necessary.

We coordinate your care and treatment plan with your other providers. If you see a physical therapist or chiropractor, we’ll keep them updated on your care.
