Control Your Physiological Process with Biofeedback

Biofeedback therapy is a mind-body technique that uses electronic monitoring devices to provide individuals with real-time information about their physiological processes, such as heart rate, blood pressure, skin temperature, muscle tension, and brainwave activity. The goal of biofeedback therapy is to enable individuals to gain voluntary control over these physiological processes, which are typically considered to be involuntary.

During a biofeedback therapy session, sensors are attached to the individual’s body to measure the physiological responses being targeted for control. This information is then displayed on a monitor, allowing the person to observe their physiological responses in real time. By receiving immediate feedback, individuals can learn to recognize the subtle changes in their physiological state and make conscious efforts to control them.

Feedback that we see can be provided through visual cues, such as graphs or animations, auditory signals, or even tactile feedback. As individuals become more aware, they can recognize and influence their physiological responses. This can be done using various techniques, such as deep breathing, relaxation exercises, or mental imagery, to regulate their bodily functions – thus figuring out what does and does not work for each person.

Biofeedback therapy has been used to treat a range of conditions, including stress-related disorders, anxiety, chronic pain, migraines, high blood pressure, tension headaches, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders, and certain types of incontinence. It is often used as part of a comprehensive treatment plan, alongside other therapies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy or medication.

"I met with Dr. Strut and he thought that he could fix it for me. He's been giving me the injections in my ankle, and it no longer buckles. I think three months ago he started, and it's been good ever since, so I'm very, very, very happy."
